Monica Arreola, Tijuana BC, Mexico. 1976

She is an architect, visual artist and cultural manager.

Member of the National System of Art Creators. He studied a Master's Degree in Modern and Contemporary Art and a higher education in curatorship at the Casa Lamm Cultural Center. He directs 206 contemporary art exhibitions.

She recently presented her solo exhibition "Echoes of Abandonment: Photographs of a Utopia" at Best Practice Gallery in San Diego, California.

She was part of La Bienal Fronteriza 2024. In 2023 she was part of the collective exhibition GUT_BRAIN 1: Destructive Desires and Other Destinies of Excess at The Blackwood University of Toronto Mississauga (2023); in 2022 she was part of the Whitney Biennial 2022: Quiet as It's Kept; and Rivers and Mountains, Oolong Gallery, Solana Beach. She was selected for PHotoESPAÑA, Discoveries 2022; she was also a beneficiary of the second period of the PAC/Covid-19 Support Fund. In 2019 she was selected for the BC Program to Stimulate Artistic Creation and Development 2019-2020 in the category of Creators with a Career (photography) with the project: Valle de San Pedro, author's photobook, she was part of Northern Exposure, a photography program for Medium Review; In 2018, it acquired support from the Program for the Promotion of Cultural Projects and Co-investments, FONCA, in the category: Visual Arts for the project: discussion and exhibitions, cycle 2018-2019 in 206 contemporary art; and in 2015, the Stimulus for Creation and Artistic Development in Baja California (PECDA), category: Dissemination of Cultural Heritage in the discipline of Visual Arts.

In 2014 he won first place at the “IX Baja California State Photography Biennial”; in 2008, first place at the “VI Baja California State Photography Biennial”; in 2006, second place at the “IV Estandarte International Biennial”; honorable mention at the “IV Baja California State Photography Biennial”, in 2002, first place in the “Spectacular Mexico Border Bridge” contest for Insite and first place in the photography contest of La Tempestad magazine.

Some of his images have appeared in Mexican magazines such as La Tempestad, Tierra Adentro, Caviar Izquierda and Origina, as well as in the Italian publication ZOOM, Ojo de Pez in Spain, in the New York Times and Artforum.

He has participated in several collective exhibitions in Monterrey, Guanajuato, Puebla, Mexico City, Tijuana, San Diego, New York, Washington and Madrid.

Some of his photographs or installation art pieces are part of the collection of the Tijuana Cultural Center, Baja California Institute of Culture, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Elías + Fontes Collection, Hugo Lugo Collection, Kunsthaus AC Collection Foundation and Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum at Miami University, among others.
